About Eidsbugarden brygge
Eidsbugarden is at the western end of lake Bygdin in Jotunheimen, an hour by boat from Torfinnsbu, with four sailings between 09:50 and 15:30. The lodge here was founded by the poet Aasmund Olavsson Vinje in the 1860s and became a base for the first generation of Norwegian mountain walkers. The boat is the practical way in: the road ends some distance away and the alternative is a long walk with gear. Service is seasonal, running only while the lake is ice-free. The lake sits at over a thousand metres and holds ice well into June, which sets the season for the boat rather than the calendar. Torfinnsbu at the far end is another lodge with no road access of its own.
