Ferries from Dieppe

Dieppe's advantage is where it is, not how long it takes to reach. Landing here puts you in Normandy from the moment the ramp goes down — Rouen an hour away, Paris around two, and none of the Calais-to-everywhere driving that a shorter crossing buys you.

The crossing

Dieppe to Newhaven takes about 4 hours, with 3 sailings, worked exclusively by DFDS using the Côte d'Albâtre and the Seven Sisters. Overnight departures run closer to five hours.

⚠ This is the only cross-Channel route into this part of France

Calais, Dunkirk and Boulogne all land you in the Pas-de-Calais, north of the Somme. Cherbourg, Caen and Le Havre serve lower Normandy and Brittany. Dieppe is the one arrival point on the Alabaster Coast between them.

If your destination is Rouen, the Seine valley or the Normandy coast east of Le Havre, no other crossing gets you closer.

The port and the town

The ferry terminal is on the east side of the harbour, a short distance from a town centre that runs down to a shingle beach beneath chalk cliffs. Unlike most Channel ports, Dieppe is somewhere you might reasonably choose to spend the evening.

The station is close to the terminal with a direct line to Rouen and connections to Paris Saint-Lazare.

Foot passengers

The rail links either side make this a genuinely workable public-transport crossing: Brighton or London to Dieppe, then a train inland. Few Channel routes still support that as cleanly.

Season and weather

The route runs all year. It is a longer, more exposed crossing than the Strait of Dover routes, and while cancellations are uncommon, a rough day here is felt more than it would be on a ninety-minute shuttle.
