About

About Cape Lookout

Cape Lookout is reachable only by boat. The barrier island at the southern end of North Carolina's Outer Banks has no bridge and no road, and this landing — served from Harkers Island with 45 sailings on a 25-minute crossing — is the main way onto it. Ferries run 08:15 to 18:15, daylight only. The black-and-white diamond-patterned lighthouse dates from 1859 and is what most visitors come for. There is no drinking water, no shop and no shelter beyond the historic village buildings, so the crossing is a supply run as much as a ferry ride: whatever you need for the day has to come with you on the boat.
