Ferries from Bergen Nøstet kystrutekai

Nøstet is where the Norwegian coastal route begins. Hurtigruten and Havila both sail north from Bergen on a service that has run since 1893, calling at 34 ports between here and Kirkenes near the Russian border over six days. The timetable holds the first leg to Florø, six and a quarter hours, departing at 20:30. The coastal steamers were built to carry mail, freight and passengers to communities with no road, and although the roads exist now, the ships still call at quays where they remain the practical link. Havila entered the route in 2021 alongside Hurtigruten, and its vessels run on batteries in the World Heritage fjords where emissions are now restricted.
