About Aix
Île d'Aix has no cars, around two hundred permanent residents, and one way in: the 25-minute boat from the Pointe de la Fumée at Fouras, which runs every day of the year.
Two price lists
A visitor pays €13.20 for a single in mid-season, €15.00 in July and August. An islander with a nominative card pays €0.60 a journey, or €100 for an annual pass, and moves a bicycle, hand cart or parcel for €0.60 rather than €12.00. The gap is the clearest sign that this is a working link rather than an excursion — the boat is the island's road.
Arriving
The crossing lands on the island's north-west side. Visitors get about on foot or by bicycle; bikes can be brought across for €12.00 or hired on the island, including tandems and child trailers. Under-4s travel free, and a reduced "solidaire" fare of €11.00 return exists for those who qualify.
