About

About Wasaline

Wasaline operates the car-and-passenger ferry across the Kvarken, the narrowest part of the Gulf of Bothnia, linking Finland and Sweden. Long owned jointly by the cities of Vaasa and Umeå through NLC Ferry, it was acquired by Stena Line in 2026.

Vaasa to Umeå

Its single route runs between Vaasa in Finland and Umeå in Sweden, a crossing of about four hours — the shortest sea link between the two countries — passing close to the UNESCO World Heritage Kvarken Archipelago. The ferry carries cars, freight and foot passengers, and is popular for day cruises.

Aurora Botnia

The flagship Aurora Botnia, in service since 2021, is one of the world's most environmentally friendly ferries, running on LNG and biogas with a large battery system; it carries 935 passengers with cabins, restaurants and shops. Fares are in euros and Swedish kronor, booked online.
