Sydney Ferries is the harbour's public network, run under Transport for NSW and integrated with the city's Opal ticketing — the same card and the same fare caps as trains, buses and light rail. Routes carry F-prefixed line numbers, with F1 to Manly the best known.

Paying

Opal cards work across the network, and contactless bank cards are accepted directly. Fares are split into adult, child, concession, and senior and pensioner categories. OpalPay extends the same payment method onto some private ferry operators on the harbour, so a single card covers more of the water than the government fleet alone.

Tides shape the timetable

Transport for NSW publishes specific guidance on ferries at low tide — some wharves cannot be served when the water drops, and services are adjusted rather than cancelled. On the upper harbour and river routes this is a routine part of the schedule rather than an exception.

Accessibility

The network publishes detailed accessible-travel information: planning an accessible trip, mobility aid specifications (wharf access depends on the dimensions of the device), travelling with prams and children, and safety guidance on board. Animals and pets have their own rules, as do group travel and school excursions.

Transport for NSW also lists local ferry operators in regional New South Wales — the small river and lake crossings outside the metropolitan network — under the same information system, which makes it the practical starting point for ferry travel anywhere in the state.
