Svendborg Havn runs the small-island ferries of the South Funen archipelago, and the Hjortø service does something almost no other route on this site does: it has a different timetable on nearly every day of the week.

Nine departures, six day patterns

The nine sailings from Svendborg to Hjortø run like this. Monday: 09:30 and 14:30. Tuesday and Thursday: 08:00, 10:00, 13:00 and 14:30. Wednesday: 08:00 and 14:30. Friday: 10:30 and 16:30. Saturday and Sunday: 09:00 and 15:00. Four days out of seven get two boats; Tuesday and Thursday get four; and no two consecutive weekdays share a pattern.

Which is what a very small island timetable looks like

This is not disorganisation. Hjortø is one of the tiniest inhabited islands in the archipelago, and on a route where the whole demand is a handful of households plus deliveries, the sensible design is to put the boat where it is needed on each specific day rather than run an even hourly service nobody fills. The crossing itself is a flat 60 minutes each way, and the return legs mirror the outbound ones an hour later.

Skarø and Drejø are the busier pair

Svendborg to Skarø runs five departures — 07:40 Monday to Saturday, then 10:45, 14:45 and 17:30 every day, with a 20:15 on Fridays and Sundays. That last one is the weekend-return sailing: it exists so people can leave the islands on a Sunday evening or arrive for a Friday night.

The same crossing is quicker in the evening

Most Skarø departures are timetabled at 35 minutes, but the 17:30 takes 30 and the 20:15 takes 45. Same boat, same water. A fifteen-minute spread on a half-hour crossing almost always means a difference in calling pattern rather than in speed, and Drejø is the obvious candidate for the extra stop — but check the sailing rather than assume it.

Three islands, one boat, and the order matters

Svendborg, Skarø and Drejø are worked as a chain rather than as separate shuttles, which is why Drejø to Skarø appears as its own leg at 30 to 35 minutes. If you are travelling between the two islands you are riding a section of the mainland service, not a dedicated inter-island link, so your options are whatever the Svendborg boat happens to be doing that day.

Check the day first, then the hour

The practical rule for this operator is the reverse of most. Do not look up a departure time and then check whether it runs today — start from the day, because on the Hjortø route in particular, the sailing you remember from last week very likely does not exist this one.
