SeaLink is Australia's leading marine transport brand, the ferry arm of the ASX-listed Kelsian Group. It began in 1989 with the Kangaroo Island ferry and grew by acquisition into a national operator running scheduled and tourist services across four states.
Ferries around Australia
Its flagship route still crosses Backstairs Passage from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island, secured on a 25-year contract. In Queensland SeaLink runs the busy Townsville–Magnetic Island catamarans and is the largest operator in Moreton Bay, serving the Southern Bay Islands and Palm Island; in the Northern Territory it sails Darwin–Mandorah and out to the Tiwi Islands, and it has operated harbour services in Sydney.
Fleet and fares
Kangaroo Island is worked by the vehicle-and-passenger ferries Sealion 2000 and Spirit of Kangaroo Island, with two new 60-metre vessels planned; the wider network uses passenger catamarans and vehicle barges. Fares are in Australian dollars, charged separately for passengers and vehicles. Parent Kelsian agreed in 2026 to sell its tourism arms to Journey Beyond while keeping the core scheduled ferries.
