Park Island Transport runs the ferries for Ma Wan, a small island between Lantau and the New Territories that is almost entirely a single private residential development. That ownership shows up in the fare table in a way it does on no other route on this site: what you pay depends on whether the company knows who you are.

A non-registered passenger pays about 50% more

On Ma Wan to Central the adult single is HK$24.1 for a registered user and HK$36.0 for everyone else. Children under 12 and passengers aged 65 or over pay HK$12.1 against HK$18.0. A registered user is simply someone who has registered with the company — in practice, a resident. The gap is not a discount scheme bolted on; it is the fare structure.

The Tsuen Wan link is cheaper and shorter

Ma Wan to Tsuen Wan takes 12 minutes and costs HK$10.2 registered, HK$12.0 non-registered — children and seniors HK$5.1 / HK$6.0. Here the gap is small. The premium is concentrated on the Central run, which is the commute into the business district rather than the short hop to the nearest New Territories town.

Twenty-two minutes to Central, nineteen departures each way

Our data holds 19 departures in each direction between Ma Wan and Central Pier No. 2, timetabled at 22 minutes. Sailings from Ma Wan run 06:30 to 21:00 and from Central 07:00 to 21:30. The Tsuen Wan service is much thinner: five departures each way, 08:10 to 16:10 outbound.

Weekday and weekend are different timetables

The published frequency is split into Mondays to Fridays excluding public holidays and Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and our day masks reflect that: some departures run all week, others only Monday to Friday. On the Tsuen Wan link a further group runs at weekends only. Check the day before the hour, particularly on the Tsuen Wan side where five departures leave little margin.

The operator is the estate’s own transport arm

Park Island Transport Company Ltd. is not a general ferry company that happens to serve Ma Wan; it holds a licence from the Transport Department to run this specific service, and the registered-user tier only makes sense for an operator whose core passengers are the people who live at the far end of it. That is a different business from the franchised harbour crossings, and it is why the fares look the way they do.

Where the fares come from

These figures are the ones filed with Hong Kong’s Transport Department, with effective dates of 19 January 2025 for the Central service and 17 August 2025 for Tsuen Wan. Fares on licensed services are published through the department rather than set freely, so the registered/non-registered split is a licensed arrangement, not an informal one.
