Norled AS Schedules 2026

Norled is one of Norway's largest ferry operators, running car ferries and fast passenger boats from the Oslofjord in the south to Troms in the north. The company operates around 80 vessels across nine counties and has put much of its investment into new vessel types and low-emission technology.

How Norled services are organised

This is the part that confuses visitors, and it is worth understanding before you go looking for a timetable. In Norway most ferry and fast-boat services are tendered by the regional public transport authority, and the operator runs them on that authority's behalf. Norled sails many of its routes for bodies such as Kolumbus (Rogaland), Skyss (Vestland), AtB (Trøndelag), FRAM (Møre og Romsdal), Nordland fylkeskommune and Ruter (Oslo).

The practical consequence: for most crossings the timetable, fares and tickets belong to the authority, not to Norled. Norled's own site says as much for the Ryfylke and Finnøy connections, pointing passengers to Kolumbus. So if you are searching for a specific sailing, look under the regional authority for that county rather than under the operator's name.

Where Norled sails

Services run in nine regions: the Oslofjord, Østfold, Rogaland, Vestland (both the former Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane areas), Møre og Romsdal, Trøndelag, Nordland and Troms. The fleet splits between car ferries on the fjord crossings and fast passenger boats (hurtigbåt) serving island and coastal communities, plus seasonal fjord cruise services.

Norled publishes its own timetable for the Hjelmeland–Nesvik–Skipavik crossing in Rogaland; for the rest, the county authority's site carries the schedule.

On board

Catering varies by region and vessel. All ferries and fast boats in the Oslofjord have a kiosk, staffed or self-service; in Rogaland the kiosks are self-service. In Vestland the fast boats have staffed kiosks while the ferries carry both staffed and unstaffed ones — with the Vangsnes–Hella–Dragsvik vessels self-service only. On Møre og Romsdal's Festøya–Solavågen crossing the ferries add a staffed kiosk to the self-service one.

Norwegian fjord crossings are short and frequent rather than long and scheduled — many run every 30 to 60 minutes through the day — so for most routes the question is less "which sailing" than "how long is the queue at the quay". Vehicle boarding is generally first-come, first-served unless the authority operates a reservation system, as Kolumbus does on the Ryfylke ferry.

A twelve-minute crossing that never stops

Hjelmeland to Nesvik carries 45 departures and the return 43, each timetabled at twelve to thirteen minutes — and the span runs from 00:00 to 23:20. There is no night gap. On a Norwegian county road that crosses water, that is the point: the ferry is the road, and roads do not close at eleven.

The Skipavik legs are the thinner branch, with 13 and 11 departures at fifteen to seventeen minutes, and one pairing down to two sailings. Across the routes we hold, three day patterns apply, so the branch services vary by weekday in a way the main crossing does not.
