About
About NLM
Navigazione Laghi is the state-run operator on Italy's three great northern lakes: Lake Maggiore, Lake Garda and Lake Como. Each lake has its own network of battelli — passenger boats — and traghetti, the car ferries that cross where no bridge exists.
Two kinds of boat, two kinds of journey
The passenger boats work as scheduled transport between lakeside towns and as sightseeing in their own right; the car ferries are road links, crossing the mid-lake narrows. On Como that means the Bellagio–Varenna–Menaggio triangle; on Garda, the Toscolano–Torri crossing; on Maggiore, the run between Intra and Laveno.
Timetables change with the season
The summer timetable for boats and car ferries runs 29 March to 4 October 2026, published as downloadable PDFs per lake and per route. Outside that window the service thins considerably — on the smaller Maggiore routes, dramatically so.
Practical
Tickets, season passes and reservations are handled through an account area, with SMS alerts for service changes. There is a freephone line, 800-551801, and a published accessibility page. The site runs in Italian and English.
