Rønne to Ystad and back carry 9 departures each way at 80 minutes — the crossing between the Danish island of Bornholm and the Swedish mainland. Sailings from Rønne run 06:30 to 20:30 and from Ystad 08:30 to 22:30. The company’s Jutland-to-Zealand routes, the ones that gave it its name, are not in our data.

Seven different day patterns on one crossing

The nine departures each way carry seven distinct day masks between them. Some run every day, some only at weekends, some on midweek combinations. Molslinjen began in 1963 as a folkeaktieselskab, a company floated to ordinary shareholders rather than founded by a shipping family. The first ferry, Mette Mols, sailed on 18 May 1966. Today the operator describes itself as the link between Denmark and Sweden and between the islands and the mainland, running buses as well as ships.

The world’s largest battery ferries are on another of its routes

On Øresundslinjen the company runs what it describes as the largest battery-powered ferries in the world on a high-frequency service, drawing almost entirely on wind, hydro and solar electricity. That route is not in our data either, but it is the reason this operator turns up in conversations about electrified shipping.
