About

About Maistros

Maistros belongs to the Boatman Union of Santorini, the association of local boat operators, and works out of Messaria on Santorini. It is named after the maïstros, the north-westerly that blows down the Aegean through the summer — the wind that also decides how comfortable the crossing will be.

What it links

Santorini is the transport hub of the southern Cyclades, and the small islands around it get there quickly by this boat: Ios, Sikinos, Folegandros and Anafi. Ios to Santorini takes about 35 minutes from €6.50; Anafi to Santorini runs roughly 70 to 90 minutes from €7.00. Those fares are a fraction of what the big high-speed craft charge on the same water, which is the point of a local boat.

Anafi is why it matters

Anafi lies east of Santorini with almost no direct connection to anywhere else. For a couple of hundred permanent residents, a small boat with an afternoon departure is the difference between a day trip to the hospital and an overnight stay. The service is seasonal, running roughly June to the end of September, and it is a passenger boat — no vehicle deck.

Booking

The company has no website of its own. Tickets are arranged locally through port agencies or the central booking platforms, and on some channels an e-ticket is not issued — the ticket has to be collected in printed form from an agency before you sail. Check the sailing days before fixing accommodation: a boat this size runs a few times a week rather than daily, and the schedule contracts sharply outside high summer.
