About

About Guemes Island Ferry

The Guemes Island Ferry is run by Skagit County across Guemes Channel from Anacortes, Washington — a short crossing that is the island's only fixed link.

The fare covers a round trip

One payment covers the trip to Guemes and the return to Anacortes, so you are not buying twice.

Concessions are means-tested and bought in person

The needs-based pass is not available online. It must be purchased in person at 1800 Continental Place, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., before sailing. Eligibility is narrow: Guemes Island residents actively enrolled in the county's Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons property tax exemption programme under Washington state law.

The extra run that may not happen

An additional sailing is sometimes offered immediately after the 11:15 a.m. departure — at the Ferry Division Manager's discretion, by advance reservation only, and explicitly not guaranteed. Book on (360) 416-1466.

Freight, hazmat and after hours

The hazmat fare may be split between several companies travelling together and applies regardless of how many trucks are aboard. After-hours service is capped at three hours and depends on vessel and crew availability. Emergency crossings dispatched by 911, the Sheriff, fire service or utilities can run outside the published schedule.

Maintenance

The vessel goes out of service for scheduled pier-side maintenance — during the 2026 window a passenger-only service ran on the non-peak schedule in its place. Email and text alerts carry the updates.
