FRS Syltfähre Schedules 2026

Fifty kilometres beyond the German border, two ferries shuttle between Havneby on the Danish island of Rømø and List on German Sylt — up to 32 departures a day. The SyltExpress has one car deck, the RömöExpress two, and between them they take cars, motorhomes, lorries, coaches and bicycles.

Why people use it instead of the causeway

Sylt's other road link is the Hindenburgdamm, where cars travel by rail shuttle. FRS makes three promises against that: no reversing, no booking fees, and guaranteed passage regardless of wind or vehicle size. On an exposed North Sea crossing the last one is the substantive claim.

Fares

Valid 6 January to 31 December 2026. A vehicle costs from €67.80 one way, from €101.90 for a same-day return and from €111.90 when you return on a different day. Passengers are from €13.30 one way and €19.60 return; children 4–14 from €8.40 / €12.90, with reduced rates for over-60s.

Two things sit outside the table. Islander rates apply to cars, RVs, trailers and motorcycles registered on Sylt — a meaningful discount for residents. And a temporary fuel surcharge is currently added on top of published fares.

A detail for lowered vehicles

If your car is lowered — by modification or by design — tell the ticket desk before boarding. It changes where you are parked on deck, and the company asks specifically to be told in advance.

Events

The route has a social side unusual for a car ferry: Music Nights aboard the SyltExpress (the eleventh featured the band Madsen), and an Open Ship day for the List Harbour Festival on 8 August, when foot passengers travel free all day in both directions — vehicles and bicycles pay the normal fare.
