About
About Fjord X
Fjord X operates fjord cruises from Sogndal on the Sognefjord, with its head office at Vesterland in Kaupanger. It is a tour operator rather than a scheduled ferry line — the boats run excursions, not a timetabled crossing you can use as transport.
What it runs
Two trips make up the published 2026 timetable, both starting from the Dampskipskaien steamer quay in Sogndal:
- Historic Viking Cruise — Sogndal to Fimreite and back, 1 hour 40 minutes, built around the Battle of Fimreite in 1184 and, closer to living memory, the submarine hunts in the Sognefjord during the Cold War.
- Evening cruise — Sogndal to Årøy and back through the Barsnesfjord, 60 minutes, timed for the sunset.
Variants
The Viking cruise can be combined with an electric bike ride back from Haug farm at Fimreite along a road with very little traffic, and there is a cider cruise — the Sognefjord's orchards are a recognised cider region. Private charters are available. The season runs 1 June to 31 August.
