Dry Tortugas National Park is one of the most remote units of the US National Park Service — a cluster of islands about seventy miles west of Key West in the Gulf of Mexico, United States, reachable only by boat or seaplane. Its passenger ferry is run by the park-authorized concessioner Yankee Freedom.
The Key West ferry to Fort Jefferson
The high-speed catamaran Yankee Freedom III sails from Key West to Garden Key, about two and a half hours across open water, landing at the vast 19th-century Fort Jefferson — the largest all-masonry fort in the Americas. Day trips include snorkeling on some of the least-disturbed coral reefs in the Florida Keys.

The park was established in 1971 (1992 as a national park). Ferry fares, in US dollars, bundle the park entrance fee, breakfast and lunch and snorkel gear; the boat also carries campers out to the island. Cars cannot reach the Tortugas — the ferry and seaplane are the only ways in.
