Discovery Bay Transportation Services (DBTSL) runs the ferries that are the lifeline of Discovery Bay — the car-free residential town on the north-east coast of Lantau Island. Founded in 1981 as the transport arm of the developer HKR International, it has carried "DB" residents to and from the city for over four decades.
Fast catamarans to Central
The flagship route runs from Central Pier 3 to Discovery Bay aboard purpose-built 33-knot catamarans — vessels named Discovery Bay 1, 2, 3 and onward — covering the crossing in about 25 minutes. Boats run roughly every 15–30 minutes from early morning until around midnight. The service was historically famous for running 24 hours a day; the overnight ferry was withdrawn during the pandemic and is now covered by the overnight bus route DB08R. An extended service also reaches the Discovery Bay North pier.
Fares and tickets
The adult fare from Central is HK$55.80, with a reduced HK$38.20 for registered Discovery Bay residents; Octopus, cash and AlipayHK are accepted. DBTSL also runs the estate's internal and external bus network, linking DB to Tung Chung MTR, Sunny Bay and the airport.
