The Canby Ferry has crossed the Willamette River between Canby and Wilsonville in Oregon since 1914. The current vessel is the M.J. Lee II, carrying cars and foot passengers, and Clackamas County markets it exactly as what it is — a five-minute float instead of a bumper-to-bumper drive.
There is no timetable
This is the thing to understand before you drive there: the ferry has no set schedule. Conductors cross as needed, so you arrive, wait for the boat to come back, and go. Operating hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, closed on holidays.
And it closes when the river rises
Service stops when the river level reaches 70 feet or higher, and for special events. There is an information line — 503-650-3030 — and it is worth calling before setting out in winter.
Fares, and the cash rule
From 1 July 2025: $3 for a motorcycle, bicycle or pedestrian; $5 for a vehicle up to 22 feet; $10 for 22 to 44 feet; $15 for over 44 feet; and $30 for an oversize load taking the whole ferry. All fares are one way.
No debit or credit cards are accepted at the ferry — cash or cheque only. Punch passes are the way around this: 20 crossings for $55 on foot or two wheels, $80 for a single-space vehicle, and those can be bought online by card.
