Brisbane City Ferries

Brisbane City Ferries is the CityCat and cross-river ferry network that glides along the Brisbane River at the heart of Queensland's capital. Owned by Brisbane City Council and ticketed under the TransLink brand, the boats have been run since November 2020 by RiverCity Ferries, part of the Kelsian Group.

CityCats, KittyCats and Cross River ferries

The flagship is the sleek high-speed CityCat, whose all-stops F1 route runs the length of the city from the University of Queensland at St Lucia to Northshore Hamilton, calling at some 22 wharves including South Bank, QUT Gardens Point, New Farm and Bulimba. Smaller KittyCat catamarans work the Cross River hops — Bulimba–Teneriffe, Holman Street–Riverside and others — while weekday express CityCats speed commuters between the outer terminals. The double-decker Gen-4 "NextGen" CityCats, rolled out from 2019, carry 170 passengers with an open upper deck.

Fares

Since 2024 Queensland has charged a flat 50-cent fare per journey across all TransLink services — bus, train, tram and ferry alike — regardless of distance, paid with a go card or contactless card. It replaced the old zone system entirely. CityCat services began in 1996; after the 2011 floods destroyed seven terminals, the network was rebuilt with flood-resilient pontoons engineered to swing aside from river debris.
