About Atlânticoline
Atlânticoline is the public inter-island ferry company of the Azores, the Portuguese archipelago in the mid-Atlantic. Wholly owned by the Autonomous Region of the Azores and based in Horta on Faial, it was created in 2005 as the islands' maritime lifeline.
The Triângulo and beyond
Its core is the daily service across the central "Triângulo" — the three neighbouring islands of Faial, Pico and São Jorge — linking Horta, Madalena, São Roque, Velas and Calheta. In summer, seasonal lines extend to connect the wider archipelago, reaching all nine Azorean islands. It carries around 590,000 passengers and tens of thousands of vehicles a year.
Fleet and fares
The fleet of passenger-and-vehicle ferries includes vessels such as Cruzeiro das Ilhas, Mestre Jaime Feijó and Cruzeiro do Canal. Fares are in euros with discounts for Azores residents; in 2015 the company absorbed the earlier Triângulo operator Transmaçor.
